Description
Every year my wife and I visit Cornwall. One of our favorite destinations is Polperro on the south coast.
Polperro is a 13th century fishing village, with a reputation for smuggling and privateering. During the latter half of the 18th century boats were licensed by the Admiralty to attack and capture enemy ships, bringing great wealth to many Polperro families. The privateers often combined official business with smuggling, returning with cargoes of contraband to sell ashore.
In later years, Polperro has become one of the most popular resorts in Britain for artists and visitors alike.
This painting shows some of the boats in the harbor at low tide and captures the late afternoon light.
This painting was highly commended in the 2016 Patchings art competition.
