Description
A drought in Texas that started roughly 2009 turned into record heat and wildfires by 2011. . Much was lost during that time, including homes, lives, forests, and livlihoods. This painting is #2 in a series I did in memory of the loss of a favorite madrone tree in Big Bend National Park. Once a beautiful living madrone tree found at a pull-out on the drive up to the basin campgrounds, I have been photographing it since the mid 1960s. I was shocked and saddened to find it dead from the heat and drought in 2011. To me it represents all of the losses from global warming and climate change that we have endured.
