Description
Still life photograph of an accordian, trumpet and a cold beer in a glass. It's time to celebrate Okterberfest and dance the polka.
Polka dancing enjoyed a resurgence in popularity after World War II, when many Polish refugees moved to the US, adopting this Bohemian style as a cultural dance. Polka dances are still held on a weekly basis across many parts of the US with significant populations of central European origin. The polka was initially a Czech farmer dance, developed in Eastern Bohemia. Polka is defined as a lively couple dance of Bohemian source in duple time; it was a basic pattern of hop-step-close-step. The name of the dance polka is Czech for "half-step", relating to the swift shift from one foot to the other.
