Description
Deep purple hues from a dramatic sky reflect upon the sands of the beach. It is a time and place of tranquility and peace.
The artwork, On the Horizon, invites the viewer to enter onto this coastal moment, capturing the last rays of the sun before evening sets in and the deep purples and golden highlights give way to dark blue and – if there is no moon – black.
On the Horizon is where the action is, as the clouds in the sky change in color with the movement of the sun. But there is action as well in the water – where there is always movement and grace at the ocean – as well as on the beach itself, which reflects the golden rays of the evening sun. And though there is much to see and take in, this is not a moment of stress or anxiety, because the ocean itself is not a place of stress or anxiety. The ocean is a place where we are struck by the timelessness of this huge body of water that covers our planet, and has done so for a long time.
The ocean, and the myriad of life that flourishes in and around it, does not care about cell phones or television shows or work schedules or last month’s bills, and because it doesn’t, it is a place where we can go to escape these anxieties as well. Under a big sky, in front of a big water, we are conscious that we – and our modern lifestyle that imposes itself upon us every day – are small, and that’s not such a bad thing.
It is good to be reminded that there are bigger, grander, more majestic elements out there, and we are invited to stop, be silent, and reflect upon nature’s majesty, and the One who created it.
The location for this coastal seashore artwork is Lincoln Beach, Oregon.
On the Horizon is featured on 27 Fine Art America groups.
Third place winner, Sunrise Sunsets contest, August 2019.
