This is a commission I did for a lovely couple here in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They have rescued 5 beautiful dogs and they wanted them to capture the essence of living in New Mexico. Joey is on the left. His owners told me he LOVES to eat. So Joey is enjoying a traditional New Mexico meal: margarita with a salted rim, a burrito smothered with red chile and chips with salsa and quacamole. Myka wears a cowboy hat and boots. She loves snuggling with anything left on the floor so she is wrapped in a serape blanket! Koko the German Shepherd is the matriarch of the family. She is a peace maker so she wears hippy boots and the Hindu peace symbol. Yazhi which is Navajo for "little one" sits on a Navajo Indian rug and wears traditional Navajo turquoise jewelry. Skye sits to the far right and is about share a song as the mariache singer in the group. This painting was the most time consuming I have done to date: 150 hours!!!! What a challenge and what a joy!
