Description
This is an original steampunk image, inspired by the fact that, in 1803, the Frenchman Etienne Gaspard Robertson, a physics professor, considered the construction of a balloon of 80 tons, in form of big gondola, two times of the one than the biggest oceanic boat of the time, to shelter 60 scientists. They would make great trips of exploration, "audaciously going where no man ever was". Arrogant and militant, Robertson united fancy and common-sense in the project. The gondola possesses rooms for seminaries and laboratories. Serving personnel and relatives were concentrated in small separate gondolas, so that they do not distract the scientists. All on board possess a parachute. A small balloon also exists to escape in case of danger. In the top, it is the statue of a rooster holding a flag with registration "scientiarum favore". Soon Robertson arrived at the conclusion that the balloon could not be directed and could only follow the direction of the wind. Driving by power would have to wait the time of the airships. Robertson never began construction of the balloon. The project - its dream, its utopia, its dulcinéia received the name "Minerve"
