The Columbia County Courthouse in Dayton, WA, is an example of a community pulling together to preserve, protect, and renovate an historical building. Built in 1886, the courthouse is a fine example of well done, 19th century architecture, and for years, the courthouse was the jewel of Dayton, the county seat of Columbia County.
As the years went on, however, the courthouse began to fade in its glory, and assorted renovations and adjustments, including the removal of the blind justice statue and eagles – which were removed during World War II to be melted down for scrap metal – resulted in the courthouse looking old, sad, and a mere reflection of what it originally was.
In the 1970s, residents of Dayton turned their attention to recreating and renovating the historic nature of the town, including the county courthouse. Placed on the National Historic Register in 1975, the courthouse became the focus of an ambitious restoration program in 1984.

I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 13 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought. There's a lot of angry art out there, as well as a lot of shallow pop. I choose to use the abilities and experience I have to promote beauty and goodness.
